วันนี้ครบรอบการประกาศเอกราชประเทศซูดานใต้ครบรอบ 2 ปี ซึ่งเป็นประเทศลำดับที่ 193 ของโลก หลังจากการแยกประเทศมาจากประเทศซูดาน
การฉลองเอกราชเริ่มในตอนเช้าวันนี้ บริเวณด้านหน้าสนามอนุสาวรีย์ Dr John Garang ซึ่งเป็นบริเวณจัดงานอัฒจันทร์ด้านหน้าสนามถูกจัดไว้สำหรับพิธีการฉลองในครั้งนี้
บริเวณรอบนอกสนามมีประชาชนให้ความสนใจเดินทางมาเฉลิมฉลองเป็นจำนวนมาก ผู้ร่วมฉลองต้องเดินทางด้วยเท้าไปบริเวณงานระยะทางประมาณ 500 เมตร เนื่องจากเจ้าหน้าที่จะไม่อนุญาติให้นำยานพาหนะเข้าบริเวณงาน ประตูทางเข้าร่วมงานทางเข้า 2 ประตู สองด้านทางทิศเหนือและทิศใต้ ประชาชนที่เข้าชมต้องเรียงแถวให้เป็นระเบียบเพื่อความเรียบร้อบของการเข้าชมงาน
